Bangalore to Tirupati by KSRTC, APSRTC, ITDC-Detailed Information by a Darshan Visitor

I recently made a trip to Tirupati from Bangalore few weeks ago. I am writing this to help people get information who want to travel from Bangalore to Tirupati for Darshan.
There are three major bus services from Bangalore to Tirupati:
ITDC: 1155 Rs
KSRTC: 1155 Rs
APSRTC: 1100 Rs.
All these buses start from Racecourse Road and are generally around night between 8.30 to 10.30 pm. The buses are Volvo air-conditioned but not that comfortable. The leg space is less and its hard to sleep in the bus. The bus will stop at regular intervals of around 2 hr. The total travel time is around 6.30 hrs. My bus started at 9.30 pm and at 3 am it reached Tirupati. The temple is another 30-45 mins. from this place. Once one reaches Tirupati, the Darshan visitors are taken to a guest house. The accommodation will be provided for 1.5 hrs during which one has to take bath and relax if he or she wants to. The accommodation will be one room per family or per group. After that the bus will move to visit the temple of Lord Balajis wife and one can pay Darshan in that temple. The ticket will cost 25 Rs.
After this Darshan, the bus will stop at a hotel and one can take breakfast in that hotel. All those people who want to get their head tonsured are taken into different vehicles to the temple. The head are tonsured free at the public head tonsuring hall inside the temple. It is advised to take an extra set of clothing as one has to take bath after getting his head tonsured.
After this, they can have their breakfast and submit their belongings at one of the shop which have a tie up with the travel guide. It is advised not to take mobile or cameras, as they are strictly not allowed inside the temple.
After submitting the belongings, a line will be formed and one has to move in line. The Darshan process will take around 2-3 hrs depending upon the rush level. After the Darshan, the visitors are given one complimentary Ladoo by the travel guide.
After another 1 hour, the bus will start the journey back to Bangalore. In between the journey they will stop the bus for lunch at a hotel. The special thali is around 55 Rs. , but its a buffet system and I tell you , that the lunch is really good.
The bus will be back to Bangalore by around 7.30 pm.
This is very good information for people who are willing to go to Balajis Darshan from Bangalore by ITDC, KSRTC, APSRTC.
Going to Tirupati is like rejuvenation and I feel blessed by Lord Balaji.

I am also planning for Tirupati trip with my wife,
Volvo is comfortable or not?
We can stay where?

amitsinha said...

hi, Volvo is decent. I mean its comfortable except that you wont find it comfortable for sleeping . If you take the package of KSRTC, you dont need to worry about the accommodation. They will give you and your family a single room for around 1.5-2hrs in the morning , where you can get fresh. after that you will be back to bangalore by evening 7 pm.
best of luk, contact back for any queries.

thx gautam.. i would suggest u to book the tickets on 3rd only when u reach b'lore. i think u can get the ticket for 5th for tirupati. if u dont get ticket in ksrtc , then try apsrtc and itdc as well, as all three of them have same buses, start from same point and almost everything is same with negligible difference in cost. the ksrtc office branch is in marathalli road and the office is in racecourse road.
i wish u best of luk for darshan , do post something after the darshan.

Hello Amit,

I hope that after booking, travel, breakfast , lunch and accomodation etc etc you would be having the smooth Darshan or did you face any difficulty visiting the shrine for Darshan. Did some ITDC official helped you till you visit the temple. How much time it took for you to visit the shrine and for how long you waited there. I hope that ITDC people were not in hurry as you people had to come back the same day.

Thanks

Hi Amit - Lovely piece of info and very informative volley of comments. Is there any restriction in terms of clothing to be worn during Darshan both for men and women? Is there any locker facility available (like Mata Vaishno Devi) where one can keep his / her valuables or other stuff / luggage while having Darshan? Or tour operator provides us with this facility?

Any Do's and Dont's you might advise all of us!!!

Thanks.

Vishal

amitsinha said...

Hi Vishal,

There is no restriction on clothing , u can dress as per its something not very inappropriate as per the occassion which I am sure you are aware of.
there is no locker facility as such , but you can keep your belongings in the shops outside and they take care of it very well, including the mobile.never heard of any problem regarding this. the tour operator will guide you the shop where belongings are to be kept.

have a nice Darshan of Lord Balaji.

is there any fasility to take Darshan in leass time..........

amitsinha said...

hi,

The whole darshan time would be between 2-3 hrs. Taking little children wont be any problem, though you need to be slight careful while carrying the baby.
There are some special darshan ticket which u get from Tirupati Devasthanam which gives some 100o rs ticket and a specific time for darshan. but that has to be planned before going. contact Tirupati Devsthanam for this facility. Best wishes from my side.

Hi,
I am from Hubli and would like to visit tirupati for lord venkatesha's darshan, I was searching for this package and got your blog spot. thanks for the info. I was just wondering about the darshan timing, normally if we choose our own way of special dharshan then it take a minimum of four hours. My question is do they have contract with TTD authority where in they allow this passangers to go thru break darshan which in turn will speed up to match there departure timings ?? Do they take care of darshan too, is it included in the package??
I want to travel in the mid of this month is this possible will they have seats ??

Thanks and regards.

We went for a trip from Bangalore and for the price you pay(Rs 1400) the deal is not worth it. First of all Bus is not very comfortable, seats rattle and there is no seperation between driver compartment and passenger section. As a result the beaming light from on coming vehicles will be straight on your face. The tour guide could speak half English, half Hindi. Accomodation was excellent which was the only plus point I can mention. We have to pay for the food and the choice of hotels was just average food quality. The Darshan facility was nothing special, you could probably do it yourself. The two day trip was a bit cramped. Next time I will be driving down, no more ITDC.

amitsinha said...

Thx Dear for sharing your experience . There are 2-3 packages and all are not that comfortable. The package that I had taken was just 1 day package with KSRTC and the bus was volvo, which was comfortable. In , my case the acco. was decent but not excellent.
But really thanks , as readers can avoid the 2day-1400 Rs ITDC package.

Hello Amit,

Thanks for providing complete information about Tirupati darshan.

Since i have some medical problem travelling by bus is not possible. Do you have any information about going to Tirupati by air or rails ? Wht is the distance of airport from tirupati temple ?? We want to visit Tirupati and Kalahasti on 9th Feb 2008.

amitsinha said...

Dear Sir,

the airport is around 4-5 km from Tirupati. The way to temple is steep and you need to take a bus or private taxi from down to travel on the hills.
Please, take precautions if you have back problems. With blessings of Lord Balaji, hope you wont have any issues.
also, to beat the stress of travel, you can think of staying on the hills for a day. there are many guesthouses available on the hills.

Amit

Hi Sushant,

All the buses are same volvo, however I feel ITDC has a slight edge in terms of package variety and also its the toughest to get, otherwise all three are almost equally good.
May Lord Balaji bless all of us !

Anonymous said...

Hi Amit,

So you are saying that ITDC is the best is it?

But I am going on a two day package i.e. Saturday and Sunday .In one of the blogs written in your article, somebody has said that the two day package in ITDC is not good.

Whats your opinion about APSRTC?

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Regards,

Sushanth H.S.

amitsinha said...

Hi sushant ,

I think the 2 day package is on sat-sun only bcoz of the heavy rush on sat-sun. I once went by APSRTC from Chennai to Tirupati. I took the evening bus, did my darshan next day in the morning and then came back .
The distance of Chennai to Tirupati and bangalore to Tirupati is almost same. so I , dont think the service would be different.
All the travels stop at same place for lunch and for refreshments , so really not much difference accodring to me, but the types of packagesin ITDC is I think more.

But I found through a dealer of ITDC ,that the booking for 23rd and 24th starts only from 15th Februrary.

So shall I book for ITDC itself on 23rd and 24th February?

Suhan - It happens sometime that half seats are by ITDc and half by APSRTC , but thats not any issue. I have written earlier that there is almost no difference in the facilities offered by them.
Nikku - I have given the phone no.s of travel by KSRTC , request u to please read the initial comments.however, u need to go to their office and book the tickets, phone booking is not allowed.
Taniya- It depends on the package, generally one needs to buy on his/her own, however , once I went by a Private tour operator and they had lunch in their package.
but food is not expensive there.

I have been to Tirupati several times from Chennai. Twice using Tamil Nadu Tourism bus service and once by a provate operator. MY experience with Tamil Nadu tourism servcie has not been pleasant. I would definitely recommend the Private travel agent. Raj National Express

I have not been to Tirupati via Bangalore but an contemplating to use this route the next time I visit. Hopefully this summer.

Thanks

Though the condcuted tour is good, the quality of buses are not good. The buses are not volvo built buses only their engine is volve engine. Further, there is trip leaving B'lore at 7.30 p.m, the tour is too good, because in tirupati only people from this trip are allowed inside and there is no pushing inside. In the normal 9.30 bus from Bangalore, at the time of darashan devotees of dharma darashan push the devotees.
ITDC has to improve the coach qulity

Anonymous said...

Hi,
Just last weekend (25th, 26th April 08) we went to Tirupathi from ITDC Bangalore booked via SGL Tours & Travels.
I am sorry to say but it was a pathetic experience. :(
We reached Tirupathi around 2 am and they asked us to stand in the queue to take ticket for Darshan ourselves. They have not revealed this information before. It was so bad to see aged people and those with kids to stand in the queue without sleep for nearly 4 hrs. The counter opens there at only 5 am and to add to our fate the ticketing machine was not working then :((
Many people who used to have Royal Darshan before had chosen ITDC only in urgency thinking that everything is done accurately. People got outrageous and started calling the contact personnel. But no use then :(
However Darshan queue was only 1.5 hrs.

I strongly suggest not taking the 2 days ITDC package from Bangalore.

Hi amit,

Thanks for all the info you have provided on the blog. I am from Punjab, visiting Bangalore for Art of Living programme with my family members.I will be having 2 days maximum after the programme before I leave to my hometown. So planning to visit Tirupati.

My question is should I book for the tour now or should I book after I reach b'glore. Is there any volvo bus service where we can go to Tirupati in the morning and reach same day evening or night. We do not want to travel at night.

And last do you know, any nearby bus service at Udayapura, Bangalore?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Guys,

I just went to Tirupathi with my family on 16-06-2008 by VOLVO bus from APRSTC. It was a fantastic experience. It was chill out in the bus with AC cooling.

It start from Race Course Road, Bangalore at 7pm. The bus was clean, cool and comfortable.
At night around 9pm they stopped the bus for dinner at VOLVO area (in b/w Bglore and Tirupathi). I dont know much about that area. But the food there was just delicious and cheap also.

We reach Tirumalla at 2am. Stayed in APRSTC Lodge for around 1 hour for freshening and getting ready for onwards journey. Room conditions were so so, but for 1 or 2 hour, you cant expect for more. Went around 3am and reached Tirupathi Balaji at 4:30am. As we have VIP darshan pass with us (included in the journey ticket), so we face no problem with the darshan. It took around 1 and half hour to do darshan and pay our respect and regards to Almighty. We were given Big Ladoos as prasad which were quite tasty. I never had such great taste before.

After tea and some shopping around market there, went around 7:30am. Then we reached at Sri Padmavathi Temple (wife of Lord Balaji) around 9am. It took just half an hour for darshan. Again we had VIP darshan pass :)

Then we halt for breakfast at APRCTC restaurent which is where they took us for stay a night before. The food was equally good here but toilet condition was not good thr. Anyhow then after a lunch break at 1pm, we reached bangalore at 3:30pm.

We were tired by that time, but the feeling inside of fulfilling the dream to visit Sri Tirupathi Balaji overcome the tiredness. It was just awesome feeling.

This is it regarding my journey. I hope it can provide some guidance to the visitors who want to visit Balaji. If anyone wants to know more about that, my mail id is aggarwal.ankush@gmail.com.

Wish you all best of luck.

Regards,
Ankush

I plan to go to Tirupati on 5 or 6th Aug 2008.
Which package tour is best for 1 day ?

We would like to get VIP darshan if possible rather than wait for long, with good acco and food.

Hope its not asking for too much :)

I advise all friends to use ITDC volvo bus for going to Tirupathi, that too 0730 pm bus. This is convenient than KSRTC. They leave at 0730pm and stop for only dinner. They reach Tirupathi at 0130 hrs and give you decent room for 2 hours to take bath. They take you to the hill at 0330 am and you will be put in queu at 0500 hrs when the atmosphere is pleasant and people have not got up. The shops will not be opened and the atmosphere will be serene. You will get Darshan before 0600 hrs as ITDC purchases Rs.200 per head ticket for 20 people. You are given 2 laddus and they also arrange shoe and mobile safe custody on payment. There is also a good guide who will explain and accompany you throughout. You are brought back to Padmavathi temple at Tirupathi downstairs at 0730 am. You have breakfast, visit Padmavathi temple and start back to Bangalore at 1030 am. They stop for the Lunch at 1330 hrs and reach back at 0430pm. ITDC charges Rs. 1500 per ticket but very convenient. I advise people to use this.

Hi Amit

I am planning a trip fm BLR to Tirupathi around 16th July 2009. You have provide excellent feedback on the ITDC package. I have checked that the price of ITDC is now Rs 1400- (0nly for Tirumala) and private operators using Volvo buses is Rs 800-). The private buses also offer food.

You have mentioned that you have also travelled once to Tirupathi through a private operator. From your experience, is there a great difference in the time/quality of darshan/smaller queues? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the info! its great!I have a couple of queries.Me and my friends are planning to go to tirupati for 2 days.we want to travel there on our own.So the questions that i have are:
1)How and where do we buy the Darshan tickets?I know there is a office in Malleshwaram where it can be bought, but since we are planning to go there in a week or two i think we wont be able to get tickets thr as the quota will be full.So is there any facility to buy tickets(the Rs 200/- ones) at Tirupati. If yes where and when can it be bought?
2)Is it possible to easily get accomodation in hotels there?

Any info would be helpful.Thank you in advance!

Hi Vinay, Non AC buses will be like state buses ,which would not be that comfortable, I suggest. yes, bit of coldness will be there. I suggest you take a seat in middle and also take a small bedsheet to cover aunty from the cold. I myslef is allergic to AC, but a normal bedsheet to cover herself will be sufficient. I hope , she would be comfortable with that. best wishes

A little off topic, Guys... I have a question. A week ago I looked at this site:
Rivalspot.com - Xbox tournaments for money
They say you can play online Football game tournaments on any console for cash... had anyone tried that before? Looks like a cool idea...
Are there any other sites where you can play sports games for real moneys? I Googled and found only Bringit.com and Worldgaming.com but it looks these guys don't specialize in sport gamez. Any suggestions?

I am the sort of guy who enjoys to seek bran-new things. Presently I'm constructing my hold photovoltaic panels. I am making it all alone without the assistance of my men. I'm using the net as the only path to acheive that. I saw a truly amazing website which explains how to make photovoltaic panels and wind generators. The website explains all the steps needed for solar panel construction.

I am not sure bout how accurate the information given there is. If some experts over here who had xp with these works can have a peak and give your feedback in the site it would be great and I'd highly appreciate it, because I truly take an interest in solar panel construction.

Thanks for reading this. You people are great.

Hi Amit,

We are planning a trip to tirupati on the 26th of jan 2012. the main purpose is to get my son's head shaved and his auspicious days are 26th, 29th and 30th jan. can you please guide me about where to get VIP darshan tickets so we don't have to be in the queue too long with my son. Also does hair shaving happen at the same trimala temple or this ceremony is performed some where else?
we would be travelling by car from bangalore could you suggest a goopd place to stay.
Can we get his head shaved on 26th jan, when we reach tirupati from bangalore and do the darshan on either 27th or 28th depending on when we get the tickets for... or is it necessary to do darshan after the head shave?

Please mail me at art_shruti@yahoo.co.in

Thanks a lot,
Shruti

amitsinha said...

Hi Shruti,

1. shaving happens at the temple also , other option is to get it shaved outside and bring the hair along.
2. there is TTDC guest house on the hill . if its not peak day like weekend you can easily get an accomodation. alternatively you can stay at some good 3* hotels down the hill.
3.its better you book the tickets in advance. there are TTDC centers in Bangalore too, you can find it on net on the TTDC website. if its weekend , heavy rush is there. if u book in advance , you can get the darshan in 2-3 hours which is not uncomfortable.
May Lord Balaji bless your kid.
Thanks,

Amit

Hi amit,
It was a really helpful and informative blog. Wish to express my gratitude for such a post.
I visited tirupathi through Rajesh travels 1 day package.
We started at 8 pm. They arranged a bus to pick us up from jayanagar to Race course road, from where all their buses start.
We left race course road at 10.15 sharp.
Reached their accommodation near tirupati at 2.45.
They gave us very short time to get ready (around 30 mins) and next have breakfast at their own hotel.
The package cost included the price of darshan, breakfast and lunch.
we started to tirumala in ap bus.
stood in queue at 6.30. but queue started to move only after 7.30 .
had darshan at 8.45 around.
It was a grt feeling to have darshan of the lord.
next collected laddus for the darshan coupon.
we started at around 1.30 to blore
stopped by for lunch and tea .
reached blore RCR at 7 sharp.
overall, it was a nice trip.
