IPL -4 Auction – Ganda hai par dhanda hai yeh…

Disclaimer – I love watching IPL and this article is just trying to make a humor out of the whole IPL hoopla…nothing personal against anyone and no sentiments attached. Your feedback is welcome whether it’s a dash of sweet or is a pinch of salt. I love them both!

There was a lot of excitement to watch the IPL-4 Auction live on TV, courtesy SET MAX. I was getting restless to watch the whole thing and to get myself prepared to watch the whole bidding process live, I got a can of diet coke (sorry,oh-la-la-lu-le-loo..argh..), masala peanuts and a friend who has an amazing knowledge about cricket statistics.
However, my excitement soon fused out after watching the expressionless face of the host who was facilitating the bidding process. His pronunciation of Indian names like Mur-a-lli Kart-ick was good enough to make one’s head bang. With due respect to his credentials as I am sure he must have been a good qualified host and would have done many bidding processes in past but I just found him a bit boring.
I wonder why they didn’t hired Mandira Barbadi for handling the auction process as she might have created some waves in the bidding with her “Top” comments.
In between the chit chat, there was our very own Desi Paaji passing his expert comments and analysis on the cricketers bid and at the same time thinking of “I wish I would have played IPL”.
But we all know that once the “pulp is squeezed from mango” there is no fun in buying that mango. One of the prominent disciple of this fundamental adage is “Tees maar Khan” not the Punjabi Munda but the very own KKKK….Kolkata Badshah who didn’t retained Dada in his team.
Effigies burnt, my Bengal friend got emotional on FB, sports journalists treating this as “shocking” and what not. Lately, it is also doing round that CBI is going to conduct an enquiry as why the fiery Dada was not taken by KKR…
I just hope that rising onion prices is at least not linked to this :)
My friends suggested that Kochi ka Ghochi should bid for fiery Dada and appoint him as the captain but they seemed to be busier with acquiring wicket keepers and bowlers in their team than Batsman. Anyways, it’s their money and their mind and we are just spectators watching the mega event.
To keep the strong tie between Bollywood and Criket going there was this yogini Shilpa with her business associate cum hubby, Raj, and Priety with Ness looking at print outs and staring at laptops as analyzing spread sheets or they might have been looking at some interesting screen saver running there. With all these bollywood tadka, I regret why the sultry nagin “Hissss” is not part of any IPL team ; may be next season we might get to see her revealing her cricket brains if we get a Haryanavi team...Ke hon lag raha Tau…
After the auction ended, I became really happy that the drama is over and I will not be forced to discuss who is going to which team and so on and finally I would get to hear and read some good cricket news other than the IPL auction. Unfortunately this happiness remained really short as tug of war for poaching uncapped players has started now. These players who were performers in IPL but didn’t get a chance to be in the national side seemed to be loosing on the money front and are heard singing this song to their franchisee-
Auction to gaya , Millions chala gaya,
Ek baar to ab humein khelne do…
Give me more money,
Give me more perks,
I want to play up once again...
Let’s see what unfolds of this IPL saga this year…minus the Modi and lovable Dada…and now all of us including our cricketers get out of this IPL bug and focus on the World Cup solely.

The Year has Come Calling

A December morning looking misty and foggy
I look back, at what I achieved and what not
As I measure statistically the gains and loss
not only the sum of the paper with the golden line
but also the trading of tears and smiles
People, the year has come calling!
A December night, chilling and windy,
I am glued to the Plasma on the wall,
As I am drinking Whiskey and having a ball
I look back; to how many miles I traveled
And how many ages I went past
Folks, the year has come calling!
Numbers and parameters reveal only half the story
As it sets the base for the other half
When priorities are set and objectives are planned
To better my report card and achieve what I want
And I know it’s not going to be a cake walk as usual
Guys, the year has come calling!
Waiting for the sunshine on a fresh new January day
Out of the hangover and nightmares of the past
But guided by the beautiful memories
Enticed with fresh found optimism
And heavy doses of enthusiasm
I look ahead to better days and a better year
Friends, the year has come calling!

Wishing All my friends, bloggers and readers "A great 2011"
Amit

Kalpanao ke khel mein-Commonwealth games 2010

Kalpanao ke khel mein

Rajnetao ki panah mein, afsaro ke vesh mein
Aam aadmi ke aah ko , aayojan ke race mein
Jhok diya rakshon ne , kadodo ko khel mein
Aur Jab wealth ho gaya common se bahut dur
To lag gay ek doosre par lipapoti ki ralem pel mein,
Yeh hai kahani aaz ki game ki, jab aason pochne
Ke liye bhi karne padte hai
4000 rupeye ke tissue paper kharch
Aason phir bhi rukte nahin is Rashtra ke
Kyon ki use maloom hai ki
Yeh kahani hai nahin aaz ki
Sadion purani hai yeh daastan
Jisme sirf plot badal jaata hai
Aur patra naye hote hai ,
Par script wahi rehta hai,
Jaise ki purani Botal mein nayi sharab
Jise pilyai jaati hai janta ko
Isliye Janta soti rahe pee kar tull
Aur bhrashtachar hoti rahe full
Jai Ho hamare neta gano ke guno ki
Jo sangeet baza de bina dhuno ki
Aur phir bole – Aall is well
Kyonki yeh chitra katha
Ya bole to media gatha
Poornatah kalpanik hai
Aur iska uske charitra se
Kadodo milon ka faasla hai
Par koi kitna bhi nakare
Humlog jaan chuke hai ki
Its not Aall is well par it’s All in well
Jo itni gehri aur kaali hai
Ki kitni bhi roshni karo
Aur neeche rassian daalo
Phir bhi na pahunch paoge
Uski tah tak , kyonki
Tum bhul gaye ho ki
Yeh kalpana hai,
Aur kalpana jeevit rehti hai ,
Uska aanth nahin hota….

Five Things I cannot live Without – Facebook Twitter Linkedin Blogs and Google

This post came as a result of, when I logged on Orkut after months and saw a scrap from one of my lost friend after 11 years. I was happy to find him and I updated my Facebook profile with a message – Orkut still works…
Today’s internet users are hooked to social networking sites and I really liked writing a piece on it with a consumptive perspective. So here it goes…
This was one of the profile question asked in Orkut while making your online profile and the common answers to these were family, friends, cell phone, TV, bed, air, water and things of other utilities. When I also made my list, it consisted of similar things, though few profile had different needs like sports, cricket and others. But today when I compare my time spent on things I do and things I like to do and a platform where I can share is my online social networking.
A year back, like any other youngster, I was hooked to one of the most famous social networking site called “Orkut” and loved connecting back with old friends through scraps and updating pictures . The love saga with Orkut was there for few years in my life, but then as it says that every business should have a Creative Destruction in order to evolve themselves with better utility and better value for its users and it didn’t live up to that benchmark with time.
Facebook offered to its users much more than scraps and pictures with utility like community gaming such as Farmville. I remember watching renowned Prof. Jagdish Seth on CNBC TV quite a few months ago when he was suggesting to a small scale Auto components Entrepreneur to create an online community like Farmville as an innovative idea. Today FB is no more limited to youngsters but it’s a medium which is loved across age, gender, nationalities, and in my opinion it is the most egalitarian community.
Twitter is another of my favorite communication medium which I like because it is the best way to reach maximum no. of users at a given time and also it is one of the most convenient ways to share your views through short messages. Its convenience and its reach are the two reasons which make it very popular with the celebrities as they are short of time and they want a greater reach to their fans.
Another favorite with most of the writers and not professionally trained journalist is to share their detailed views on the topics they love is through blog. This is a platform where one can reach the target segments through detailed communication available on a click of mouse button. It is a medium which is loved for its reviews, personal diaries, travel experiences and knowledge on the rarest of the subjects in the world.
In addition to all these social networking platforms, there is something different in this web world which is fast gaining popularity among the business users, www.linkedin.com. This is a hit among the working professionals and students where they can scout for work opportunities in their interest areas, share expert knowledge and ideas on the fast changing business dynamics and help expand their business know how and an extended business network across the globe. I personally like this website because of its seriousness on pure business networking.
Last, but not the least the most utility search engine of this world – Google which has made our life beautiful and convenient much more than what a Roti Maker or Rice Cooker did for a housewife. Google is the most preferred companion when you are struggling to find some statistics, searching right pictures for your presentation or researching on any of your favorite topics. Just like Ocean covers 3/4th of earth, Google covers the whole web space and life without it in 21st century can never be imagined.
As a Marketer, I feel that I like these websites not only because they help me in connecting with old and lost friends or sharing our views or gaining our knowledge , but it helps to market many products, features and one’s own personality. I cannot predict till how long will they sustain, but the commercial utilization of these websites have just been started by the business community and definitely these platforms have a lot to offer for few more coming years. Also, with coming of 3G in India, these websites will be easier to access by mobile users and the traffic is bound to grow.
To summarize its fast and continued growth in the coming years, I would like to share learning from one of my favorite book “Creative Destruction” by Richard N. Foster and Sarah Kaplan which would definitely be required to keep all these websites performing and keeping its users interest alive. “It is no longer good enough simply to operate well. Corporations have to operate and manage creative destruction at the pace and scale of the market, without losing control or they will falter and fade.
I leave the opinion to my readers whether these five elements found in the web space with undefined chemical composition have replaced the original Panchtatva with some startling Facts gathered from Google.
As per Nielsen online Facebook has more than 87 million users who spend an average of more than 4 hours /day
•There are more than 75 million users on twitter and still growing day by day
•The web space has more than 100 million blogs on different topics –Source Technocrati , a leading blog statistics site
•There are more than 40 million Linkedin users across the globe connecting business

Circus-The Show Must Go On

Prabha,a Circus artist from Nepal
Russian Circus Artists
Well, do you remember the last time you had watched a Circus? I am sure majority of us will not be able to remember. Some of us will try to make guesses like it was 10 years back or may be 15 years back. This would be the case with lots of people who are above the age of 25 years as of now. The reason is very clear; entertainment has changed a lot in last 15 years with advent of satellite channels and penetration of new age communication medium like internet.
My reason for choosing a topic like Circus is not to debate on the fall and rise of this beautiful acrobatic entertainment, but would like to share my experience reloaded.
Its 7 pm and I am eagerly awaiting my friend to go and watch the Rambo Circus today. We get to the gate of the Circus and buy the highest priced ticket of Rs.120 which we can very happily afford today. People say quite true that a movie is best watched from last row, whereas Circus is best watched from the first row.
I get an immediate feeling of nostalgia as soon as I enter the Circus arena with a tall conical tent at the center place and lots of swings attached at the top of the tent for the show by trapezium artists. We both discuss, on the animals we would get to see though knowing that we would not get to see Tiger here, as all the endangered species have been banned from being used in the Circus. After 5 minutes of patient wait, the show finally takes off with the introduction of Circus artists, who seem to be mostly from North East part of India and Nepal and few artists from the former Soviet Union.
While watching a host of different shows, I realize that there are few things about Circus in India which has not changed at all, like the starting show of stunt on swings by trapezium artists, cycling on one wheel, dog show, parrot show and the jokers. They are still the same, though I definitely feel that the quality of comedy by jokers has declined heavily. The great filmmaker Raj Kapoor had idolized the image of joker as the most essential part of a Circus, but today they seemed to more of nuisance and just a fill up gap between the shows. This was a pure disappointment for both of us.
There were definitely some new shows which made our spend quite worth like the dance show by beautiful Uzbek artist, where she dances while lying down with 4 trays of burning candles over her body. Another show which was really exciting was a show by a Naga lady in which she throws the cups and plates with her feet to land exactly on her head and she is able to do so while balancing 3-4 pairs of cups and plates. There were regular shows like the fire show by the guys and a show by elephant where the animal uses his trunk to pull up the stunts and a lady rides on him like the good old Maharani days.
Another good item to be discussed is the acrobatic dance mix with Salsa steps on a song “Tere Haath mein mera haath ho,” from the movie “Fanaa” by a couple. The song was well rehearsed and showed the same passion that is seen in Reality shows like Dance India Dance, Aaja nach le etc. There is no doubt that India is full of such talents, and it’s just that lots of artists don’t get the right platform to showcase their talents.
I wanted to go to the back of the circus stage, where the artists wait for their turn and have a chat with them to understand on how they live, how do they perceive life, do they really love their job, what brought them to work in the circus, how much money they make, what support they get once their career is over in circus etc. etc., but that didn’t really worked out. Also, I miss that I was not able to take the snaps of the Circus as photography of any sort was prohibited inside the circus area. I am putting some photographs which I was able to gather from other websites. I also tried to do some secondary research on the Circus and am come out with some information which gives an idea about their life in the Circus. The Indian Circus artists on an average earn Rs.5000-6000 per month whereas a foreign artiste earns around Rs.1000/day. This earning is very low compared to what the people in other entertainment sector receive, but still you will always see the smile on the artists face and their dedication to their work. They live in tents for the period till the time Circus is being played in the city and the living conditions are clean and have washing and cooking facilities. I also heard that many young artists marry within themselves as its hard to find a match outside, quoted by Prabha, an artist from Nepal. The foreign artists are mostly from former Soviet Union countries that come here on short term work visa or on a cultural exchange. They seem to have helped in reviving the Circus business in India as they add distinct flavor to acrobatic performances. Also, now since there is a ban on the use of wild animals in the show, they have to depend major on the human performances and the variety they would offer.
The show has ended and we both are about to leave the arena, but yes with lots of beautiful memories reloaded and a burning desire to learn about them , sit with them and bring insightful stories on them to this world. Well, my answer to the question in the beginning is now very different, “the last time when I watched Circus was around a week back” and my suggestion to my friends and readers is to go and watch this traditional method of entertainment whenever they get an opportunity and help in reviving our very old Circus.
At Last, the show must go on…..

    Hindustan bole to Youngistan

What makes India in its demographic profile unique from other countries is the young population. The median age of India’s population is 25.1 years, which makes it the youngest country in the whole world. But, how young we are in terms of social, economic and political scenario is the essence of this discussion.
Today’s young India is ruled by the old and graying politicians who are more than 70 years old. The experience of older politician is important, but most of the time it becomes a medium for many of them to drive their personal interests and greed than serious work. I am not advocating that the younger lots of population are saints in terms of greed and money laundering, but they are definitely not that skilled in manipulating systems and playing dirty politics. Youngistan can be a real asset to India’s development with much more political participation and opportunities for them.
Though, the Indian politics is still dominated by the grey hair and old age, there are other areas where Youngistan is changing the face of nation. Be it entertainment, business, literature or innovation. The young populations of India is no more living in a protected shell but are venturing to newer territories to expand their horizon. If we study their mind, they seem to want to get differentiated with others in terms of the way they are looked upon. They are more hungry and thirsty than the older generation of India. They are the biggest risk takers and they believe in “Do the New” concept.
India in last decade has seen a host of entrepreneurship from the young brigade, in fields of technology, science, education and even non profit sector. The risk taking abilities of the younger population is going to be a major advantage in the coming decades, as India is poised to be one of the economic super powers. The best parts of these startups are that they are not only limited to big ideas and business, but also many grass root level innovations. Few days back, I came to read about a company called “Villgro” which is trying to market grass root level innovations from rural areas through rural retail stores and assisting the village entrepreneurs in their business plan and execution. This is an example of social entrepreneurship happening in India. Today’s youth loves doing what they believe in and there are numerous examples in recent times, when they chose to take up a different path from what they have been doing and are successful.
Having a huge population of young crowd means a big consumption market for products across from the world. The youth loves spending money on education, lifestyle, fashion, food and entertainment. India’s consumption scenario can be termed as similar to the economic and social impact that happened post World War II in US known as Baby Boomers generation by marketers, which had resulted in a huge consumption party in US and UK. For the marketers, youngistan is the toughest consumer to service. They are really aware of their rights; they love choices, are tech savvy and spend time on newer media channels like social networking sites.
The youths have not only changed the economic environment, but are also the biggest ambassador of social change. They are more acceptable with respect to other caste, community and culture than the older generation. This acceptability is one of the biggest challenges today, as India still battles with the acceptability issues in terms of marriages especially with the older generation. The recent cases of honored killing because of inter caste relationships or at some places marriages within the same Gotra provide the social development status with respect to India being an acceptable and adaptable society.
We all need to understand that to make India a really developed nation, we don’t need to be only economically growing at 7-8% GDP, but be socially progressive also.
As a young Indian, I hope to see India as a real youngistan in coming few years charting its path to lead the globe socially, economically and democratically.

Indian Female league – a new venture by Lalli Modi

This piece is complete fiction and has no resemblance to any one living or dead. Any resemblance is completely coincidental and a piece of hyper imagination. If I have hurt anyone's sentiment , I am really sorry for it.
So pls, don’t try to screw me …Amit

Guess, what is the new venture of Lalli Modi? -Its not Indian Hockey league or Indian Soccer league, its Indian Female league. And don’t get surprised, the love he has for women especially the cheer leaders, it does make sense.
So get ready for the next session of Cricket from the makers of block busters IPL. There are rumors that Govt. is supporting this venture, as they are advocating 33% reservation for women in Parliament, and here Mr. Modi is launching separate league for females. Good, probably Rahul will finally find a Rough and Tough girl for himself, who can bowl him out.
The teams name would be something like – Delhi Hasinas, Mumbai Maidens, Hyderabadi Potties, Kolkata Night Riders, Queens XI Punjab, Chennai Chandramukhis, Bangalore Babes, Rajsthani Rani’s and rest for others imagination to come out with innovative names.
The owners are going to be very high profile people whose love for women have never been a secret from the world. From close sources, we have come to know that Tiger Woods is interested in owning a team, especially Kolkata Night Riders, Guess he wants to break his old records of dating 9 women.
Also, the former US president, Mr Bill is keen to take Delhi Hasinas, ohhh...in partnership with Ms. Monika. How come Mr. Sar kozy Kozy be behind in the race as he is so pro women so he is pitching for Bangalore Babes. But the surprise Indian and Pakistani Package is a team will be co owned by Sania and Shoaib , as they will be jobless after their marriage as Sania is loosing her ad contract and Shoaib is already jobless. They would form a cross border team with the name – “Aman ki Ayesha” and all their matches would be of two innings – 10 overs each. Mr. Lalli Modi along with his politician friends is already advocating for 100% FDI in IFL.
The bollywood is also very optimistic about the whole affair, and I heard Madira bedi telling Saddhu Paaji in a cricket show, “Noodles Eleven”, that this is a revolutionary attempt by Mr. Lalli and a platform for ladies like her to show the world – cleavage with cricket. A journalist asked her, if she would wear her noodle strap Bra in the show, she smiled and winked and said she would like to keep it as a surprise. I know lacs of men will keep watching her boring cricket show waiting for that surprise to arrive and our Saddhu Paaji and Barsha Bhog-lee too.
The cheer girls will go from the stadium, but it will also open new job market for cheer boys who have 4 packs, 6 packs or 8 packs abs. The govt. is also very happy with this initiative that the job market is growing.
The IFL teams have already started calling for auditions from male dancers. Heard our favorite director K JO is also keen in taking up a part time career as Cheer Boy, as he loves guys. All those bollywood glam girls who are currently unemployed also have a career option – to play for IFL. Models and super models from India and abroad will be part of the team, provided they have to be fit as zero size.
Our liquor Baron is quite ecstatic about the whole thing, and he announced the launch of Queenfisher IFL calendar with a theme called “Bikinis and Bat”, after all if Pappu can Dance, then Babes can Bat too. The IFL news is already making news on TV channels, the team owners are busy finalizing the teams, and the organizers are engaged in getting sponsorships. But guess what, Sania and Shoaib are doing? They are busy fixing IFL matches. The IFL is not “Manoranjan ka Baap”, its “Manoranjan ko Maa”. Lalli , U Rock Man , U just Rock , quoted by none other than seductive Yoga teacher "shilpy Shetty".

“ Happiness lies within- sab kuch theek thaak hai”

    Hi All,
I got this article from Sushma, my batch mate from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She attends “Art of Living” and this is an article on her experience from both “Art of Living” and the books she read on life and philosophy. I just like to add one few lines to this article that “Happiness lies within; it depends completely on us to be happy. Also, a learning my brother shared from a leadership program he attended, in which the trainer said that “its we who are responsible for the state we are in” that means that we need to be brave in facing tough situations and be happy. Infact, what Aamir Khan said in the movie 3 idiot is also similar “ Aall is well”…..
And apology to Sushma , that I have changed the title of this topic from “ Who says life is easy?” to “ Happiness lies within- sab kuch theek thaak hai”
So here she goes ....Life is difficult. And it ain’t no joke. Scott Peck was damn so right when he wrote his book. As if all the fundamentals of Gods creation have been squeezed in this one small sentence by this genius. After all the good and bad experiences I guess we all at one point come in terms with this simple yet the most amazing fact about the expedition that we call LIFE.
Today, while thinking about someone I realized that no matter how hard we try to hold on to our fears, frustrations, anger, failures, regrets, loneliness or anguish, its only going to hurt ‘us’ at the end. And at that point what the other person is going through or feeling is out of question for us because we’re not living their life and neither is they living ours that they would understand our pain. PAIN…. it hurts alright… it is indeed a VERY uncomfortable feeling. And damn it’s a big deal because I wonder how we always allow people to enter the territory of our very own life, touch us deep inside, get into our soul, be a part of us and than just go away as per their choice. Like what we want doesn’t really matter. And it hurts big time. Somewhat equal to how you would feel if someone stabs you in the chest with a knife. Do you know what my Little Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘Pain’ as? It says it’s a strongly unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury slash a mental suffering. I tried to look for a wound. None I could find. Than I tried to see if I am suffering mentally. No way! That’s gonna be the last thing I would allow myself to get into. So, what is this restlessness or anxiety or unease that I label pain?
Not long ago I learnt a lesson at one of the programmes I attended. This one was called ‘The art of living’. Yeah trust me they tell you how to live. Sounds funny right? As if all this while people were not living their lives. No offense to anyone here and honestly I really appreciate the efforts H. H. H. Ravi Shankar has taken to bring about a change in peoples’ lives. I would like to tell you why I think so. On my first day to the Basic course of Art of living I saw this elderly couple who looked really depressed and it only made me wonder why after decades of living their lives and experiencing ups and downs for so many years, now they have come here to learn the art to live. Later, I got to know that they lost their only child who was in his late twenties when he died. I observed them everyday for those few days. The wife always tried to comfort her husband but he was so down in the dumps that he could not even look up. He always used to look at the floor like he is trying to find something down there. May be something that he lost or may be just an answer to his questions that someone might have had written for him on the ground. One day when it was the last day of this course I saw the husband dancing. His eyes were watery yet filled with joy. He was looking at his wife as if he is trying to tell her that he finally has found the missing thing or may be the answer to his questions. So no matter what people or even I say about ‘The Art of living’ I’m sure it has influenced many more lives like that.
Now coming back to what I have learnt from this course. The person who used to deliver the sessions one day asked all of us if we are happy. To which every single person said NO without even giving it a thought. Than he asked us to write in our notebooks the one thing that would make us happy. Everyone wrote the thing that was on their mind and so did I. After making us listen to what everyone had written he made us realize that the young ones wanted to get good grades to be happy, little older than those wanted a good job or a life partner of their choice to be happy and as the age increased the things that they desired to have in order to be happy kept varying. He asked the more experienced ones if they were happy when they were young and got good grades or were they happy when they got a good job. Listening to this we all laughed because no one was ever happy even after what we wanted was received by us. We all did rejoice for sometime but it was all momentary. Because than we had a desire for a new thing and the absence of that particular (new) thing in our life was making us feel unhappy again. So what I learnt was, that practically unless we understand that happiness is a feeling that comes from within and not from the things that we have or want, we would never be able to experience the goodness of each moment of our life. So can we conclude here that when there is an absence of this feeling of being happy is when we start thinking that we are in pain? May be... So does it mean that Pain and Happiness are relative terms? If the answer is yes than this would mean that the moment we let go of all our desires and negative emotions or feelings is when we can actually be happy and out of pain.
I would like to give my own example here. I have a kind of job I always wanted, a loving family who truly supports me for all my decisions, a nice apartment with all basic things required in day-to-day life, a bunch of good friends who are always there whenever I’m in need and most of all I feel God is ALWAYS with me. So after all this goodness that God has blessed me with, anyone would think I must be very happy. But I wasn’t. Because there was something missing. And only when I got what was missing and lost it again is when I realized that I was in pain. GREAT PAIN. Then I read some verses from the Holy Bible. It made me feel protected. Than I got a call from my dad and I felt I do belong to someone. It’s a weekend so couple of my friends called to ask if I’m free to meet them and it made me feel I’m not alone. This made me wonder, do I REALLY have to keep thinking about ‘that one thing’ that I don’t have. And it took me back to some faded memories of a book I read a long back. In this book, John Gray tells us about the techniques of ‘How to have what we want and want what we have’. The later part as per me should be the primary focus for each of us to lead a good-quality life. Because not many of us realize the importance of wanting or for that matter even realizing what all goodness we already have in our life. We always have a desire to have what is not there. And that is what makes our life DIFFICULT. Trust me if you actually want to be happy… just remember what Jiya Khan said… Take lite… ;)

Indian Media - Has it come a long way ?

It’s around a fortnight back, as I watched Prannoy Roy delivering a speech on the NDTV Indian of the year awards function with luminaries from industry, politics, art, culture, administration and bollywood present in the show.
He shared that how the first ever private news show was started by him on Doordarshan, some twenty years back and it was so much hard to convince the PM office during that period. He also discussed the technical constraints for creating live programs during that time as well as the government unwillingness to allow the live telecast of the news.
Now, when we have got almost 400 private channels with superior technical abilities and the resources to catch, everything live on TV, and reach a wider audience base with much deeper impact on the public, I would like to get opinion from the readers that, have we truly come a long way in Indian Media, and if yes then are we on the right track?
I am going to take a case of one of the popular private channel – NDTV group which boasts of Ace journalists like Prannoy Roy, Barkha Dutt, Vinod Dua and many others.
The last few days have been happening on the idiot box, with swayamvar season 2 – Rahul Dulhania le jayenge coming to an end on NDTV Imagine, the news about sex racket and scandals of Ichaadhari Bhimanand and Chamatkari Swami Nityanand and few more Swamis, and the less watched but socially responsible event of Greenathon.
Rahul Mahajan weeding tamasha might have earned good TRP for NDTV’s imagine (1.5, which was highest in 3rd week of Feb on NDTV Imagine), but it didn’t created the kind of interest and nice feelings among the viewers. The concept of getting married in a reality show is very exciting and can emerge as a very popular show for the Indian masses. Remember, Hum Aapke hai kaun , a movie based on marriage ceremony in an Indian family and also Vivah , which did not became mega hit like HAHK , but nonetheless was appreciated by the viewers.
I am sure, RDLJ could have been a DDLJ of small screen, had some more hardwork been done in the concept development and the execution part and yes, the main star cast. Rahul mahajan with his ill famed past, not so bright present, and neither seem to be having potential future(an opinion and not judgment) to woo the viewers or create magic among the masses. Also, the finalist seemed to be too ordinary and some time bit cheap too, with their tantrums and bitching and fake attitude. The final bride seemed to be having picture perfect fake attitude as well.
I am sure the masses would have loved, if the reality show would have been executed in a better way. Rakhi Sawant didn’t married in the Swayamvar, but that still that was better.
Now coming, to the sensational news of the week – A bunch of Sadhus and Sants getting into sleazy and sex scandals and playing with the trust and money of their followers. I really congratulate media on these social issues highlights , as I am sure people would not have known so much about these fake God man , had it not been highlighted with such frequency. I agree that the way it is presented in many channels is much more spicy and dramatic, but that does hammer the lots of Indian masses who are living in small towns and villages and needs to be awakened about these societal evils in the name of religion and faith.
Last but not the least, a corporate social event of Greenathon II on NTDV was a good breather and touched people on the issue of environment and energy. The event was studded with presence of movie stars, noted politicians and industrialists, economists and environmentalists. A total of 3.92 Crores was raised for lighting up 155 villages in India under “TERI’s Lighting a Billion Lives initiative. Some of the generous donors were bollowood celebrities and from corporate world like Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan,Dia Mirza, Voltas, Jaypee Infratech, Galaxy Toyota, Gitanjali Gems,Nokia and CII .
This was a platform where, the aam aadmi, politicians, stars, industrialists, economists and environmentalists came together for a cause and media was the thread which brought them together. Accolades to NTDV for organizing such an event!
This was a non stopped 24 hour effort jointly taken by NDTV and Toyota for a greener India and a brighter India.
I love watching good programs on “Idiot Box” and feel happy about the way; it has come to a technically matured stage with an impact to influence lives of people. The spicy serials and presentation are going to stay for some time, and might be in a transition phase at a later stage depending on how the viewers taste progresses. Even, in America, the most developed nation, half of the populations were glued to their TV set watching apology by Tiger Woods.
So , place your verdict on it in a Truly Indian Media style …

RANN – Watch it for Amitabh Bacchan Outstanding Performance

    I had been waiting for
    RANN
, to watch a good movie from Ram Gopal verma’s factory after the highly unforgettable bad film
    RGV ki AAG
. I was a die hard Ramu’s fan which has been subdued now after watching many ordinary movies from him post Sarkar.
Well, He doesn’t delight me this time as well, but doesn’t disappoint me also. He comes back with his style, though not with cinematic charisma, he posses and has the ability to deliver.
The script is ordinary with Amitabh Bacchan , the owner of India 24*7 , a man who believes that the objective of media is not to make money or create news, but to present the truth . He is a highly respected figure as a journalist in the whole country and his word commands respect of truth. A role of such a stature could have been played only by Mr. Bacchan or Mr. Dilip Kumar.
On, the other side is the sensationalism journalism card played by Headline 24*7 , a news channel owned by Mohnish Behl , who was an ex employee of India 24*7 and now heads the no. 1 News channel in the country.
While , Amitabh follows his ideology, his son wants to change the way India 24*7 works and this leads to a political, media and industrialist conspiracy with the powerful and corrupt politician , Paresh rawal and industrial Rajat kapoor, who also happens to be Mr. Bacchan’s son in law.
Though, the movie shows most of the Journalist character as opportunist and playable, there is one more journalist like Amitabh, played by Ritesh Deshmukh, who follows his heart and cracks the political, industrialist and media conspiracy.
Well, I am not going deep into the story as the script is average and predictable, but would definitely like to applaud the performances by the whole star cast which is really good, and that makes the film gripping and watchable.
Ritesh deshmukh, playing a serious role for the first time creates a good impact with his eyes and soft voice and his lady love Gul Panag , who looks extremely beautiful in the movie is also a good actress .
Neetu Chandra, as the beautiful girlfriend of Suddep ( Amitabh Bacchan son ) looks sensuous and does justice to her small role .
But, the movie is to be watched for Mr. Bacchan’s outstanding performance once again after “Paa”. The climax scene where he presents himself to the whole country and tells the real story behind the conspiracy involving his own son and his son in law, could have been delivered so strongly only by him and no one else.
Also, the last scene when his son kills himself and everyone is mourning near his body, and you see the tears in Mr. Bacchan eyes is just amazing. He is no doubt a gifted actor whose eyes tells as much as his voice.
Well, hope to see much more Bacchan Saab performances like this and I am waiting for “Teen Patti” now.
Go and watch it, only for Mr. Amitabh Bacchan powerful performance.

Year Gone by and Year to Come

    Hi All,

I have been writing recently on social issues and was missing on the creative side. But, yesterday I made a point to write a poem, and fortunately I didn’t have to think long about the topic. My last year has been filled with lot of emotions, fear, and has been happening on the personal and professional front.
But there is always a ray of hope, wave of optimism and a continuous passion and urge to succeed in personal and professional front. And there are always well wishers, friends and family who continuously support you and are angel for you.
This poem reflects the support and the light of hope in the coming year ….
Signing off with my last poem of this year and a happy new year of course 2010….

Year Gone by and Year to Come

I sit back today, and look at the year gone by
With a glass in my hand, trying to recollect
The good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful,
Masks and faces, which were part of my life
Some were haunting, few were daunting
Scaring the hell out of me,
But there was an angel too,
Wiping my sweat and fanning me with her hair,
    Cuddling with her finger strokes,
And flaunting me like a child in her lap
Making my days beautiful and the year memorable
She is also gone by the year gone,
But the angel always remains an angel,
She takes care from the distance,
And makes you see the ray of hope,
    Promising the coming year
To be free of evil and full of joy,
And a memorable year to come by,
The angel slowly whispers from a distant,
But still I can hear the voice so loud
Wishing me a “Happy New year”

    Regards,
    Amit

Ruchika Gehrotra – A Victim 19 years back and a Victim today

I would have never known about a 14 year old girl, Ruchika Gehrotre from Chandigarh , and am sure even most of the Indians would have not known her.
Thanks , to the Indian Judiciary system which kept the case in trial for 19 years , and sincere thanks to the Indian Media especially the electronic media like CNN IBN , NDTV, Star News which highlighted this lazy ness and sleeping investigative and judiciary system of India.
I suddenly asked myself, do I live in India where economy is growing at 7% per annum, when most of the globe is struggling with the economy. My readers would ask me why I am correlating with the economy growth, and my answer is that good economic growth leads to a creation of a more egalitarian society.
Ohhh..But don’t we know India always throws exceptions, and this case is one of them. Sorry, no comments as most of the Indians understand these exceptions very well.
My rage is not only towards the EX DGP, respected Mr. Rathore and his bubbling lawyer wife who came out of the court smilingly , but towards the investigative agency, the then state government and the judiciary system. Rathore and his wife were not making mockery of the CBI and the judiciary system or the poor soul of Ruchika or her friend Aradhana, or her family, but he made mockery of the belief of 100 Crores of Indians.
I always get hurt, when I had to hear the rich and powerful getting away with the law, and I often keep my patience not to write about them on my blog, but this time my patience gave away. This is also another dark incident about Chandigarh, the place where Manu Sharma stays and parties on Parole.
I have always loved Chandigarh a lot, and have spent some wonderful time working there, but this really sad that the girls are not safe there and the rich and mighty lobby works more than the law and order.
I just pray that the electronic media keeps up the case lighting and public pressure continues, with the politician’s like Renuka Chowdhary, Brinda karat sincere support and the case gets resolved quickly and Ruchika gets justice.
Remember, the old saying “ Justice delayed is Justice denied” , but lets give the CBI and Indian Judiciary one more chance to finally bring Rathore to books for his misdeeds who snatched away a budding life and affected a family for the whole life.
And, a final request that lets not be the victim who stays quiet , but a true warrior who fights against the odds. Warriors like Neelam katara, Sabrina lal, Aradhana Gupta have done that, and so can we.

    Durga Puja Celebrations-Revisited Memory Lane

I blog very less these days, though I am still involved in writing, but that’s altogether a different dream. But, thanks to all these social networking site and bloggers camaraderie, I was reminded by my one of my very talented blogger friend that I have almost stopped blogging and should write more frequently.
I had made up my mind, that I would blog on Sunday for sure. I was thinking today, while driving, while eating my Biryani in lunch, and while watching TV , on what should I write. I simply felt, that I haven’t read any books in recent time, have not traveled to any exciting place, had not any unusual incident in my life or relationship, not much is happening in current affairs (Shashi Twitter story is old, and doesn’t interest me at all), have watched Kaminey and Wanted, but did not wanted to write a film review, so was pretty confused on what to write.
I was just sitting and browsing FaceBook and Orkut today, looking at my old photographs and tried connecting with my school friends. This led me to think about the Durga puja celebrations during my school time , and the kind of fun that was attached to it. Being brought up in a small town, Jamalpur in eastern parts of Bihar, the town was full of Bengali population and Durga Puja was the biggest festival celebrated there. I remember, we all used to wait for Durga Puja 1 month before the celebrations and the countdown used to start. The city was full of Railway employess who used to get bonus during the Durga Puja , and they used to do a lot of shopping. The whole market and business used to gain momentum a month before the Puja .
The town had a big ground called Golf ground which was attached to a smaller ground , where a Durga Puja Pandal used to be made. The pandal used to be in typical Kolkata style , with loud Arti, Smoke, Dhol beats, Gulal and Firecrackers. On the periphery of the pandal , there used to be food stalls , of Mutton Chap, Mughlai Paratha, Biryani,Rosogulla, and tea , coffee and ciggarates. These stalls used to be full of customers and there used to be waiting time to get these delicious food itmes.
Everyday from the seventh day onwards , there used to some entertainment night like Orchestra, Dance,Children Competition which used to draw lot of participation and audience. My favorite was Orchestra, as I love live music, and most of the singer used to sing Kishore and RD Burman Songs.
The Pandal looked extremely beautiful, with all the people wearing new dresses, and enjoying with their friends and family. I remember, that was the only festival, when we used to go to market and get new dresses for everyone in the family. We were only allowed to wear these new dresses from Ashthami (eight day of Puja) after the dresses were awakened up. The whole house was awakened through vedic chants on the eighth night. After, the awakening, was done we all used to rush to the pandal and meet our school friends there. Typically, like any other small town, the town used to get sleepy by 9 pm on normal days, but Durga Puja was the only time, when the town did not sleep. I remember just roaming in the pandal , on the streets till 12 midnight and then used to get home by driving my vintage Bajaj Chetak Scooter.
Freedom was there during the festival, and we all used to exploit the freedom given by our families to experiment smoking and eating paan, since we were allowed to come late during the puja days. Also, it was perfect time to know about many beautiful females in the town whom you never thought that they existed also. Needless, to say that it was the right time to impress a girl or a guy.
This celebration style continued for me till I was in my graduation, as most of my friends used to come back home during the Dusshera holidays. Though, the friends count did started reducing soon after, we all passed our board examination and left for higher studies to big cities.
Today , that fun has almost ceased, but still the time cannot snatch away the beautiful memories of the Durga Puja celebration I had at my native place.
Its still the biggest festival for me and will always remain….
    Signing Off…a memorable Sunday…

    Racism,Ethnicity,Dicrimination-check the mirror

We all read so much about Indians being beaten up in Australia and Austrialns are being termed as racist. No doubt, I hated it , as an Indian citizen. Some prominent sociologist also termed it as ethnicity and not racial.
Whatever, it is theoretically, but they all are in same family of exploitation, where the attacks are made by a stronger group on a weaker group.
But are we as Indians doesn’t discriminate in day to day life. I was reading on net - zo-lengthe.blogspot.com and learnt some horrifying stories on how the North east people are being exploited and attacked in India. The incident pertains to an incident of molestation of two girls from Manipur, where the landlord molested the two girls along with a group of hooligans in wee hours of night. And, to my surprise, the women in the landlord family also supported it.
Is it not a form of discrimination against people from other states?
I also read another article where there was gender discrimination and that too within the same state. How, the rich North east men are abandoning their wives. Another, incident was, when the migrants from other Hindi speaking states were treated badly in Mizoram.
There are so many, that the incidents cannot be counted, but we as an Indian, that means truly Indian which says "Unity in Diversity" can raise ourselves beyond the race, statehood, gender, caste and creed and money.
Can we be an egalitarian society ourselves before we preach the Australians.
Do we treat the foreigners, the way we want ourselves to be treated. If that, is the case why the foreigners are being raped in Goa, Himachal and Rajasthan.
Its time to look in the mirror and realize ourselves before pointing a finger to others. Remember, when you point a finger, the other four fingers points towards yourselves.
Its justified to protest against the crimes towards Indians, but at the same time we should change ourselves and set an example to others.
I am leaving some pictures taken from net, to keep thinking on the attacks, protest and the harmony we need.
Don’t Kick off Guys, Embrace people!

Beautiful Sensuous and Mysterious - Istanbul

After a long long time , I am writing a travel diary which I always loved the most. This time, its about Istanbul trip which I made on behalf of my company trip.
Istanbul, a city unique in itself as it lies both in Asia and Europe. I have recently been to this city and got a chance to feel the pulse of Istanbul. Istanbul is a city similar to our Mumbai, economically important with a population of 1.3 million, the highest in Turkey.
Like as usual, my way of writing travel diary is not much about discussing the history or art of city, but more about the life style of people and the thrills the city offers in terms of living there.
The city is beautiful with tulips grown on both sides of the roads; multiple colors and even you can see Istanbul flag made of red Tulips on the road. Needless, to say I felt in love with tulips and I find them one of the most sensuous and mysterious flower. So you can already judge, my first impression about the city- Beautiful, Sensuous and Mysterious.
Istanbul is beautiful with clean roads, flowers, old palaces and mosques, trams running in between the roads, cobbled streets and yeah extremely beautiful ladies. In Istanbul, you will find people coming from eastern parts of Europe, Russia and yes the local people are also there who are extremely beautiful. I don’t remember spotting a lady who was not extremely beautiful right from my hotel reception to the streets. The population is 95% Muslim, but way of living is completely European with people dressing in jeans, shorts, skirts and tops. Also, you will see 95% of people moving on the road smoking. I need to check the data about per capita consumption of cigarettes, in Istanbul, I swear.
In terms of tourist living there , it offers a host of place to stay from star hotels like Hilton, Inter Continental, Moven Pick to shared apartments and small and cheap backpackers hotels.
I was staying in Moven Pick at levente , which is 4 station from the commercial hot spot of the city called Taksim Square. There are good public transport with metro, buses and running going across the city. Its best to travel by metro, as it saves lot of time and money also. A trip from levente to Taksim costs 1.25 Turkish lira( 1 TL = 34 Rs approx) whereas by taxi its costs 15 TL .In night the taxi charges gets 1.5 times more.
A must place to visit in Istanbul is the hamam. Hamam is an Arabic word which means a place for public bath. In Istanbul, you will find good hamas in Taksim areas, where you can rejuvenate yourself after a 7.5 hrs flight from India.Th men and ladies section are different in hamam with big Turkish guys who scrubs your complete body after you get complete sweat out for 15-20 mins on a very hot marble floor. The cleaning is really good and removes the dirt that might have accumulated on your body and you are not aware about it. Hmmm, this seems one of the reason for beautiful and clean skin these Turkish people have.
Food in Turkey is good especially for the Non vegetarians; you can get all the non veg delicacy like Kebab, grilled mutton etc. The sweets are also good especially Baklava, though it uses lot of cheese. You can always find road side cafes where some live Turkish music is being played and can see people playing chess and smoking Hukkas. Hukkas ‘s are very popular in Istanbul which still shows the footprint of Arabic culture in Istanbul.
Turkey seems to have good music and dance variety with folk dances, Belly dance and Pop and Turkish rock. Belly dancer is so common, that you will rarely find an overweight lady in Istanbul. It seems, they keep themselves fit with belly dance.
Belly dance is also something which represents the nightlife of the city. There are many clubs and discos in Taksim and Akserya areas where belly dance shows are played in night. But, many of these night clubs are also pick up joints or a place to rip off the tourist money with many hidden costs. You need to be highly cautious about any stranger or a girl approaching you. They might be employed by clubs and would like to chat with you and may ask you for a drink. The moment you buy her a drink, you fall in the trap. A drink to lady can cost as much as 150 TL or 75 Euro.
I don’t rate the nightlife in Turkey as very high, as most of the place seemed to be shady and filled with pick up ladies and pimps. These are a risky preposition in Turkey , as there have been cases of robbing the tourists.
But yes, the city does look beautiful at night, with glazing lights, many shops and restaurants open till mid night and the sensuous and mysterious aura of the city, which makes you want to explore the city more and more.
Another, salient feature of the city I liked was the roads in the residential areas. They are generally very steep and the way houses are built, it looks good. Istanbul is surrounded by camile hills , which also gives a breathtaking view of the skyline of the city.
The city is also famous for its spice Bazaar and its true also to its reputation. You see variety of spices, dry fruits, fruit tea like apple tea, pomegranate tea, variety of sea foods, fresh cheese and meat and Turkish desserts.
When these shopkeepers see an India, they try to attract them by calling the names of apna bollywood stars like Amitabh bacchan, Salman khan, Kareena kapoor. Yes, the bollywood songs and dance are indeed liked by Turkish people and they find Indian women beautiful especially their big eyes.
I want to end this diary with a revelation made during the trip, that “Amit” is a Turkish name which means very big. Good to know..Ahhahaha!!!

    The "TajMahal" visit

Finally got to see The "Tajmahal" landmark of love, the white beauty , one of the wonders of the world.
everything was great, except the pic u would see , in which its written, pls dont keep your shoes here , and that is like showered by shoes and chappals..
we as citijens also need to get awake , then only blaming politicians and administration, that hindustan mein aisa hota hai..
one interesting thing - heard from a guide that Shajahan wanted to build a black Tajmahal just at the other post of Yamuna as landmark of grief, but was not built, because of some engineering constraints. dont know its true or not..

    Liive Mumbai Live Mumbai

Mumbai has never been so live shown on TV across the world as it was during the 26th November battle. Yes, a battle between a handful of merciless fiyadeen and people of Mumbai.
And the Mumbaikars defeated not only the terrorists, but the Indian politicians as well. Politicians like Shivraj Patil our ex- home minister who spends time in changing clothes more often than caring about our motherland security, R R Patil who still believes that Mumbai attack was a small incident in the big city, Vilas Rao Deshmukh who seems to be making career into movies after politics and our very beloved Raj Thakrey , the Marathi Manush , who go on beating unarmed poor Biharis and Bhaiyaas on the streets of Mumbai. So Mr. Raj, where were you, when the incident happened. Why you didn’t thrashed the terrorist out of Mumbai. I hope, they are much bigger threat than poor North Indians, sorry Indians who come to Mumbai in search of Roti, Kapda and Jhopdi.
Its high time our politician friends get over the regions and boundaries and care about the country and its people.
Mumbai is back on track, with the same spirit but still the pain is left. They are angry for the first time. The aam aadmi, fillam wallahs , rich business mans have shed their religious lineage and are together fighting for Mumbai right, to let Mumbai live and not be live on the TV, the way it was.
There are some lines I have written on Mumbai Strive for their rights-

Let Bombay be like it was,
When peace was there and not pieces on street,
When everyone living there was a Bombaiyaa,
and not Manush, Bihari or Bhaiyaa.
Let Bombay be like it was,
    When love was there,
    and hatred miles away,
    when people loved their life,
and not dying in trains or streets,
when netas looked it as a city,
    and not a political battlefield.
Let Bombay Live and not be
Live on TV as on 26th Nov.

    Jai Hind !

    Cheering the Cheerleaders at IPL

I got a chance to watch two IPL matched at Mohali, first on 23rd may and the second one on 28th may, thanks to my company and my Boss. The matches were good with Kings XI Punjab being the winning side and some good sixes and fours. However, there is something in IPL T20, which sets it apart. The S Quotient. S or Stars have been a critical factor in the success of the IPL Bonanza or product. I remember the matches I watched in stadium. Though, being an ardent cricket believer, I liked watching Preity Zinta and the sexy and sleek cheerleaders equally or may be more than Yuvraj Singh or Shane Warne. And, truly speaking that was the sentiment in the stadium. I know many people , who were not in stadium wont agree to me , but the TV camera were not showing the crazy spectators who were watching Preity more than the cricket. It was like the chant of “ Preeto – Match jeeto” and continuous. Thankfully, Preity obliged the spectators with her waving, dancing and yeah some flying kisses.
Yeah, so coming back again to IPL beauties minus Preity, Katrina were the white cheerleaders. I got a chance to watch CL’s of Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI and Deccan chargers. My favorites were the Rajasthan Royals. Not just because of their short skirts, but because of being more appealing to the public. The CL’s of Kings XI and Deccan chargers used to face towards the ground whereas CL’s of Rajasthan Royals used to face towards the public and also dance some 15-20 seconds longer than other CL’s.
Its like a better reach to customer and more customer friendly attitude.
Well, though Cheerleaders have been talk of town, media and the ministers, but still cricket rules and has not been overshadowed. People, who criticize IPL, should watch in future and mark my opinion like many for its success. People, want to see entertainment, and this is what IPL is “Manoranjan ka Baap”.
I am posting some pics taken from my websites....Waiting for some test matches now..

U Me Aur Hum - Falling in Love Everyday

After a long time I saw a good positive movie, and now I regret not watching Tare Zameen Par. Last time, I had a watched a positive movie was BLACK, and it was accidentally, but no doubt I loved that movie.
What do we mean by a positive movie? A movie which can inspire you, can help the society to develop and be more mature, and at the same time not a boring documentary.
Just to give a short brief on the movie, for all those who haven’t seen the movie –
Ajay is a doctor who is enjoying holidays on cruise with his 4 frens, two of them are married couple who are a mismatch couple fighting with each other. The two other frens are Boyfriend and Girlfriend looking for making a life together. Ajay is single, but no more when he finds Kajol, one of the waitresses in the cruise and falls in love with her.
He tries to woo her, fails initially, but makes his day one day. The two get married, enjoying every day of their marital bliss, till suddenly a strange incidence happen.
He discovers that Kajol is behaving strangely, forgetting things, because she is suffering with a rare, but a tough disease called Alzheimer’s.
Meanwhile, his married couple friends get separated, though they all still form a circle of common friends and are seen hanging together.
Ajay who tries to manage the things, suddenly finds him helpless and gets Kajol admitted to a hospital, so that she can be take care of. Things turn really hard for Ajay, thinking about her every moment, and missing her. The situation can become so tough for a family whose one of their member is suffering from Alzheimer is shown in a much matured way.
One fine day, he realizes that he should take a strong step, and bring back Kajol home and take care of her himself, rather than leaving her. Seeing, this decisions his married frens who were separated feel the importance of living together and get united again.
But, what will Ajay do, because Kajol has forgotten Ajay. Its simple, Ajay manages to win heart of Kajol every few days, by telling her their old stories and in turn he gets some bonus days, when Kajol remembers him for few days. Hence, the film is about falling in love with your loved ones everyday.
Whether, someone is well, unwell, suffering with a rare disease, the strength lies in not running away from it, but facing it bravely and winning over it. I am sure movies, like this, tare Zameen par and black is going to help in changing the society.
Some take on Ajay devgan’s direction – I think he has done a fairly good job, though not excellent. The first half of the movie is light, with some double meaning lines as well and decent comedy. The second half highlight is Kajol’s power packed performance. No doubt, she is still the best actress around. The movie seems to drag a little in the end , but when you leave your seat finally, the positive energy created by the film keeps you upbeat. Guys watch it, it will help the society.

The Paradox of Consumptive Evolution in Marketing

Consumption is good, but up to a certain level. It must ensure a sustainable and positive quality of life.

Why should I join the league in taking this world at the verge of collapse?

You might find the above question out of context as far as Ask Harish Bijoor is concerned.

Till now I boasted and felt proud of being among the sharpest and brightest minds of India or probably the whole world. But now, during my last few days of my MBA, when I look back over the last 17-odd months, what I see is that all I have learned is how to spread consumerism and thus, unhappiness. We are taught how to sell more than two mobile phones to the same customer when he can easily do with one; how to ‘connect’ people by making them talk more and moreover call rather than encourage them to meet each other; how to influence ‘impulse’ buying even when the object’s not on the customer’s list. The list is long and never-ending. We call ourselves strategists?

Ankush, nothing is out of context at all. All questions are really good and correct. It is the answers that are wrong. It is the answers that are out of context most of the time.

I like your question. You ask because you think. And you think long-term, quite unlike the harried marketer of the day and his ‘short-termism’.

I do believe consumption has a glass ceiling. Consumption is good, up to a level. It must be all about ensuring a good, sustainable and positive quality of life to all concerned in a consumer society. The height of the glass ceiling is really common to all.

If you peek keenly at what is happening in urban India, there is some cause for distress for sure. The marketer of the day is going a bit berserk in some categories. Selling has two dimensions: Selling of the necessities and selling of the un-necessities. Both are two sides of the same coin. There is a thin line that divides the necessity from the un-necessity. Is a refrigerator a necessity? Is a cigarette lighter an un-necessity? Is a Swarovski diamond an un-necessity?

The answers are contextual to a society on the rise, the rising income levels of a people, the yen for convenience and lifestyle, and most certainly the disjointedness of a society with the real way of living, as opposed to the new virtual way of living.

Consumers go through cycles of living. In the beginning they are satisfied with the real and natural things of life and living that surround them. They are happy with what they get. As they earn more and as they make progress happen, they seek out more. This is when they move from the basic and real things in life to the created and virtual joys of convenient living. And then finally, there will come a time when they will get fed up with it all, and will want to regress to the real and natural way of living.

In different societies, the point to note is that different clusters of people exist at different levels of what I call consumptive evolution. For example, in the US, a seventh-generation marketing economy, the size of the pie of each of these three clusters could vary. The early-stage market for real and basic is very small. All under 1 per cent of market. The size of market for the created and higher end virtual joys is as large as 86 per cent. The third category of the self-actualising consumer fed up with it all and wanting the real joys of natural living once again is as big as 13 per cent, and growing.

In an early second-generation marketing economy such as India, the size will surely vary. This is un-audited as of now, though.

I do believe marketers must be the ones to show self-governance and self-restraint. The marketer in India must not try to fast-pace the consumer onto the track of unwanted needs. Selling of the un-necessities as represented by the two-television set household and the three-car household is where there needs to be immediate restraint. Advertising as well has a role to play. It is time for restraint.

And this is where you come in, I guess. I do believe you must join the marketing bandwagon for sure. You must, however, join it at the responsible end of the spectrum. Minds such as yours can contribute a lot to bring purpose to marketing that can go, and has gone, awry in its besottedness with harvesting the new consumer in width and depth for every mobile phone and garment on tout.

Why should you join the league? To bring in responsibility. To bring in restraint. To bring in method to the marketing madness we see all around us. You will stand out like a sore thumb in the beginning. You will be pushed to a corner. You will be the maverick for a start. And then the world will follow.

    Go for it, dude!

How does dominant ownership of a category impact brand valuation for the said brand in question?

    - Jyotsna Tripathi, Mumbai

Jyotsna, owning a category is the biggest value-reap any company or brand can hope for. When you own a category, you alienate every other competitor, existing or new. You build barriers to entry which are rock-solid.

Brand valuation in categories totally owned are the highest for the owner of the category. The board game Monopoly owns the category, just as Scrabble owns the word games category. Valuation of these brands is the highest in the board games category.

India is no doubt becoming a high consumption society following the path of consumptive evolution like US. And, as a Marketeer , most of us are trying to sell all kinds of products, whether the consumer really needs it or not. As, a Sales and Marketing professional , would I do the same ? well, it depends but I feel that as a responsible marketeer , we need to understand the needs of consumer and design the product accordingly.
I also , feel that it should not be mistaken by upselling or cross selling the product, as upgrading the consumers is a perfectly ethical move by any sales or marketing person.
The focus is to make a genuine attempt to sell, and not fool the consumer becuase a untapped consumer is easy to win , but getting back a lost customer is a tough thing to do.
